People from all over the country (and even a few people planning to travel internationally) offered to host a Stanley for A.J. Due to the wonders of Facebook (Stanley just can’t stay away from technology!) we asked if anyone might be willing to host Stanley, and were amazed by the response. Matt came up with the idea to have AJ color one Stanley, and then take him to the copy shop and have color copies made on cardstock–to make Stanley more sturdy for his travel. We decided it would be easier on our friends and family if they could each get their own Stanley, rather than having to mail just one Stanley around, and that way they could keep him for awhile, and email or text us their pictures when they took them (so Stanley went a little high tech).įirst we had to decide which Stanley template to use, and whether it was unnecessarily torturous on us all to have AJ color 30 individual Stanleys (unanimous yes). I wanted him to be put in the mailbox, just like in the books. However, I made the conscious choice to keep our Stanley traditional. There is an iPad app of Flat Stanley and the 50 states (which we put to use here…). Stanley has gone high tech–you can get a Flat Stanley app, where all your friends and family have to do is download the app and snap a pic. I did some due diligence before starting this week, checking out all the possible ways one can use Stanley. Stanley is a versatile teaching tool–he can help us learn about geography, letter writing…the possibilities are endless. If you aren’t familiar with Stanley, we must change that immediately. So really it was only a matter of time before Flat Stanley showed up at the Gerhardt Schoolhouse. I love the whole concept–the original book written in the 1960s, the idea of poor Stanley Lambchop being smushed by a bulletin board, destined to travel the world in an envelope forever…. There may be no one in the world who loves Flat Stanley more than me.
